Strategies for Building Semantic Web Applications

The SIOC initiative (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) aims to enable the integration of online community information.

The SIOC ontology represents rich data from the Social Web in RDF. It is commonly used in conjunction with the FOAF vocabulary for expressing personal profile and social networking information.

SIOC Tools

SIOC tools include the following:

• The SIOC Exporter for WordPress produces SIOC metadata from a weblog. The data created by the plugin can be accessed by following autodiscovery links that are added to the blog's main page and all blog posts.

  The main SIOC page can be found at your.host.here/wordpress-folder/?sioc_type=site, e.g.http://johnbreslin.com/blog/?sioc_type=site and http://www.mkbergman.com/index.php?sioc_type=site.

  Different types of SIOC information can be exported using the following URL patterns:

  • site info: http://test.rdfs.org/blog/index.php?sioc_type=site
  • user: http://test.rdfs.org/blog/index.php?sioc_type=user&sioc_id=2
  • post: http://test.rdfs.org/blog/index.php?sioc_type=post&sioc_id=6

• The Extended WP SIOC Exporter extends the SIOC Exporter for WordPress by exporting semantic metadata embedded in the HTML content of a Posting.
• The SIOC Import Plugin enables you to create blog posts in Wordpress by taking SIOC data from other weblogs.
• The SIOC Exporter for Drupal exports SIOC data from Drupal sites, including blogs and forums and has a project page at http://drupal.org/project/sioc.
